What compressing M4A actually does
M4A is AAC audio inside an MP4 container — the Apple Music, iPhone and YouTube standard. iTunes purchases, iPhone voice memos and audio pulled out of video all land here. AAC at 128 kbps sounds about like MP3 at 192, so the size can drop with no audible loss.
